King of the Court 2024

Join us for King of the Court, an exciting six-week basketball program offered by the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation! This program is designed for boys in grades 6 to 12 who live in or attend school in Allentown, perfect for both beginners and those looking to refine their skills.

Program Highlights:

  • Location: Executive Education Academy
  • Dates: September 24 to October 29, 2024
  • Sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
    • Grades 6-8 & Grades 9-12 will have separate activities and breakout groups during the same timeframe.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Essential basketball skills (from fundamentals to advanced techniques)
    • Strategic play
    • Life skills: teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership
  • Special Feature: Each Tuesday, enjoy Yoga and Mindfulness sessions led by Alvin Johnson from Bearded Yoga Life, emphasizing athlete wellness and mental mindfulness.

About the Lead Trainer:

Don Dentith will lead the basketball training sessions. He has an impressive background, having been the leading scorer at Pen Argyl High School and completing his athletic and educational career at Millersville University. With six years of coaching experience at The Feeder Program and 15 years of basketball training under his belt, Don brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the program.

About Alvin Johnson:

Alvin Johnson is a dedicated yoga instructor and mindfulness educator with a passion for promoting wellness among young athletes. He began his yoga journey in 2017, initially seeking to enhance his physical fitness. However, he quickly discovered that yoga encompasses much more than physical poses; it offers invaluable tools for mental and emotional well-being. In 2021, Alvin completed his RYT 200 certification through the Yoga & Ayurveda Center and later became an Ayurveda Specialist, allowing him to integrate holistic practices into his teaching.

Alvin specializes in Power Yoga, focusing on strength, flexibility, and mobility, but he also offers gentle and vinyasa styles to cater to different needs and abilities. As a board member and mindfulness instructor with the Mindful Child Initiative, he is committed to equipping students and parents with practical mindfulness tools. His sessions will not only help participants unwind after basketball training but also cultivate focus and resilience, essential skills for both sports and everyday life.
