We are excited to offer the American Red Cross Lifeguarding - Blended Learning course! This course combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you’ll practice and demonstrate your lifeguarding skills.
Important Information:
- eLearning Requirement: You must complete the blended eLearning portion of the course before attending the in-person sessions. Be prepared to show proof of completion (either a printed certificate or online verification) when you arrive at class.
- Minimum Participants: At least 5 participants are required for the in-person sessions to take place.
- Pre-Requisite Skills: All registered participants must pass the following in-water skills before they can fully participate in the course:
- Swim 150 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both (swimming on your back or side is not allowed) then tread for two (2) minutes (only legs) then continue to a 50 yard swim. Goggles may be used.
- Timed Event (1 minute, 40 seconds):
- Swim 20 yards (you may have your face in or out of the water). No goggles allowed.
- Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Swim 20 yards on your back with the object, keeping your face at or near the surface for breathing, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Course Requirements:
- Attend all sessions and actively participate in all class activities, including taking on different roles during scenarios.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all required skills.
- Pass the final skills scenarios.
- Complete all eLearning content, including the written exam on CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
- Pass the final written exam with at least 80%. If you do not pass, you are allowed one retest, provided you have passed the final skills assessment.
What to Bring:
- Meals, snacks, and beverages for the day.
- Swimsuit: Women should wear a one-piece swimsuit, and men should wear board shorts.
- Towels and a change of clothes for comfort.
- Identification to verify your age (date of birth).
Course Schedule:
- Both Full Lifeguard Course and Re-Certification Lifeguard Course
- Blended Learning (Online Course): Approximately 10-12 hours ….
Full Lifeguard Course
- In-Person Skills: Approximately 26-30 hours. You must participate in all in-person skill sessions and scenarios.
Re-Certification Lifeguard Course
- In-Person Skills: Approximately 12-15 hours. You must participate in all in-person skill sessions and scenarios.
Health & Safety:
- The practice sessions involve strenuous physical activity. Please consult your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about participating.
- If you have any medical condition or disability that may affect your participation, or if you have any questions, please contact Aquatics staff at (610) 437-7750 before the course starts.
Certification:
After successfully completing the course, you’ll receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, valid for 2 years. You can access your digital certificate via email, which will include an alpha-numeric identifier and a QR code. The certificate can be viewed, printed, or shared online.
