MILLION CLICKS PROGRAM EXTENDS TO LEHIGH CANAL PARK

The City of Allentown’s Million Clicks for a Million Hearts walking program is expanding to an 11th location.

Mayor Ray O’Connell clicked-in at the newest location at Lehigh Canal Park this afternoon where a jobclock was installed at the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Trail.

The Million Clicks for a Million Hearts program began in 2016 in the city.  Nearly 4,000 participants have joined the program.  Walkers can click-in the jobclock with their member key tabs so their walks are logged and counted.  Prizewinning clicks are chosen every month.

O’Connell said, “According to federal statistics, one in three deaths in the United States is due to cardiovascular disease. Increasing physical activity is just one step you can take to fight heart disease. The Million Hearts walking program encourages healthy living and reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes.”

The weather-resistant time clocks are positioned on wooden posts at the 11 locations in the city along with a sign indicating that walkers can “Click, Walk & Win!”

The other ten jobclocks are located at the LifeTrail in Cedar Creek Parkway, Trexler Park, Andre Reed Park, two in Lehigh Parkway, Stevens Park, West Park, Jordan Park, Roosevelt Park and at 9th and Hamilton streets.

Registration for the program can be done on-line at www.allentownpa.gov/millionhearts or send a completed sign-up form to the Allentown Health Bureau at 245 N. 6th Street, Allentown, Pa 1802.
